It’s been a roller coaster ride for the New York Giants and
defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora, but the free agent-to-be said yesterday that
he hopes to remain with the club, according to Paul Schwartz of The New York
Post.
Osi Umenyiora admitted he has gone ‘back and forth’’ with his public comments about his future but on Thursday sounded emphatic when he stated “It would be my preference to definitely come back and finish my career with the New York Giants, the team I’ve been with.’’
Umenyiora will become a free agent at the end of the season,
and it’s been a foregone conclusion that the 10-year veteran’s career with the
Giants is over. However, he continues to hold out hope that he can work
something out and remain with the only team he’s known.
Still, Umenyiora is preparing for the very real possibility that
he’ll have to sign elsewhere this offseason if he wants to continue his
football career. He mentioned the New York Jets as one possibility. Umenyiora
lives in Atlanta, and the Falcons could be another potential fit as a team in
need of a pass rusher.
