New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was fined $10,000
by the National Football League earlier this week for his aggressive spikes-up
slide into Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed during Sunday’s AFC Championship
game, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
The league fined Brady $10,000 for the slide, a source informed of the fine told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport on Wednesday.
Brady called the event an accident, but he still reached out
to Reed with an apology. Reed managed to get out of the way of Brady’s leg, and
the All-Pro didn’t have a problem with it. He even said that the slide pumped
the Ravens up on their way to victory.
Brady was looking at Reed during the slide and obviously had
his leg up, but it’s impossible to determine if his intent was merely to
protect himself from an on-coming defender or to actually harm an opponent.
Whatever the case, this issue seems to be put to bed.
