Jets Rumors: New York Exploring Darrelle Revis Trade

The New York Jets plan to explore all options when it comes to cornerback Darrelle Revis, including trading the All-Pro, according to Albert Breer of NFL.com.

The New York Jets are expected to explore all options on cornerback Darrelle Revis' future, two sources apprised of the team's plans said Wednesday.

During meetings with general manager candidates, owner Woody Johnson expressed a need to determine Revis’ future with the team, according to Breer. There is some doubt of what a long-term contract would look like, and given the Jets’ salary-cap situation, one of the options is trading Revis.

For Revis’ part, he has always wanted to be a member of the Jets and wants to continue playing for the team for the remainder of his career.

Revis is due $6 million (with a $9 million cap hit) in 2013, and, per terms of his contract, he can't receive the Jets’ franchise tag in 2014. Revis ended his 2010 holdout from the Jets by signing a seven-year contract that could void after four years, based on the cornerback hitting training-camp reporting dates, according to Breer.

Revis is also coming off anterior cruciate ligament surgery, which ended his 2012 season. For all of these reasons, teams may be more hesitant to surrender a top package for the cornerback despite his immense talent.
