Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew to begin rehab in February

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew will begin rehabbing his foot injury in February, according to Ryan O’Halloran of The Florida Times-Union.

Jones-Drew underwent surgery to repair his foot injury in December, and he continues to move around on a scooter as a precautionary measure. The running back expects to begin rehab by swimming in February, while he hopes to start working out on dry land in March.

If he’s able to return to dry land workouts by March, this would allow him to join the Jaguars first minicamp, even if he’s not able to participate in full capacity.

Jones-Drew is entering the final year of his contract with the Jaguars, but he hasn’t shut the door on an extension with the team. He held out last offseason and into the start of the preseason, but he said he’s not going to be the one to initiate contract talks this time around.

Jones-Drew will be 28 by the start of next season, and the Jaguars could elect to part ways when his contract expires rather than re-sign him.
