Vikings Cornerback Antoine Winfield’s broken hand forced him
to exit yesterday’s victory over the Green Bay Packers prior to the start of
the second half and sidelined him for the remainder of the game, reports Mark Craig
of Sporting News.
Winfield had injured the hand the previous week at Houston but finished that game. It was announced as a small fracture, but Winfield didn’t practice last week. He tried to play Sunday but couldn’t jam or re-route receivers, nor could he make a tackle without the hand affecting his play. With his hand swelling up, he sat out the second half.
While his hand was “quite swollen” after yesterday’s win
over the Packers, Winfield insisted that he will suit up for Saturday’s wild-card
playoff matchup against Green Bay. Coach Leslie Frazier has said the cornerback
is day-to-day with his hand injury, noting that it will be harder to play given
the short week.
