Nick Foles Breaks Hand; Michael Vick Named Starter

Rookie quarterback Nick Foles has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his hand, and the Philadelphia Eagles have named Michael Vick as their starter for this weekend’s regular season finale against the New York Giants, reports Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

"I'm elated to be back out there on the football field," Vick said in a telephone interview from Newport News, Va., where he distributed toys on Christmas Eve to children in his hometown as part of the Team Vick Foundation. "It's a situation where I want to go out there and seize the moment. It's the end of the season, we need to win. We haven't won consistently in a long time, so we want to finish the season with a win."

This will be the first game Vick’s started since sustaining a concussion against the Dallas Cowboys several weeks ago. Foles had been starting in the veteran’s place and had been named the starter for the remainder of the season.

However, Foles sustained what has now been determined to be a season-ending injury in the first half of last weekend’s contest against the Washington Redskins. X-rays didn’t initially reveal the extent of the injury, and the rookie quarterback returned to finish the game. Unfortunately for Foles an MRI taken Monday showed the hairline fracture.
