Lions Rumors: Jim Schwartz’s Job is Safe

While it’s been reported that Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz could be out following the team’s disappointing season, he will be back and there is “no merit” to the notion that the team seriously considered letting him go, reports Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Schwartz will be back in 2013.  The source also said that there’s “no merit” to the notion that firing Schwartz with three years left on his contract has been considered seriously.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported yesterday that Schwartz’s job could be in jeopardy. While Florio wouldn’t completely dismiss that initial report, he did note that the fact Schwartz is signed through the 2015 season is likely saving his job.

The Lions ended their season at a disappointing mark of 4-12 after another close loss. There was much expected of the team after last season’s positive showing, and even if he’s not let go Schwartz figures to be on the hot seat entering next year.
