Current San Diego Chargers coach Norv Turner expects to be
fired by the team after another disappointing season, reports Dan Hanzus of
NFL.com.
"Obviously, we're going to meet with the team, and I'm sure they'll start looking for a new coach," Turner said after Sunday’s 24-21 win over the Oakland Raiders, via The Associated Press.
As they have for the past several seasons, the Chargers
entered 2012 as one of the favorites in the AFC West. Given the presence of
quarterback Phillip Rivers and the lackluster state of the Oakland Raiders and
Kansas City Chiefs, the Chargers line up as contenders year in and year out.
However, Turner has only managed to lead the club to a 24-24
record since 2010, and it’s been clear that he’s set to be removed from his
current position.
At this point, if Turner hopes to continue coaching he is
likely to receive interest from teams as an offensive coordinator. However,
Hanzus notes that it’s no guarantee that he’ll be seriously viewed as a head
coaching candidate this offseason.
