New York Jets quarterback Greg McElroy hid a concussion
sustained last weekend against the San Diego Chargers, reports Jane McManus of
ESPN New York.
The New York Jets' coaching staff didn't know Greg McElroy had been experiencing concussion symptoms this week.
His teammates did.
According to several players McElroy confided in, the quarterback had been wrestling for days with the decision to tell the Jets' medical staff of his symptoms.
After discovering McElroy’s condition, coach Rex Ryan
immediately named Mark Sanchez as the starter for the team’s season finale
against the Buffalo Bills. In going with Sanchez, who was benched for the
Chargers’ game, Ryan once again passed over Tim Tebow.
Ryan told reporters that while McElroy should have been
honest with the team, he understands the hesitancy to give up a starting
opportunity in a league where they don’t come easily.
