Rams Rumors: Stephen Jackson Mulling Retirement?

Though he’s only 29 years old, St. Louis Rams running back Stephen Jackson discussed retirement with reporters yesterday, reports Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“I’ve always thought about it from day one,” Jackson said, via comments distributed by the team.  “I’ve always thought about what my exit strategy is going to be. If I had to write my story, I’d rather go out like Barry Sanders — wanting people to want more than to leave too late.”

Still, Jackson said that he wants to continue playing for the Rams, as he’s impressed by what coach Jeff Fisher has brought to the organization. Jackson sees a bright future for the team and said he’d like to be a part of it.

Florio believes there is a good chance Jackson will return to St. Louis next season as long as he and the Rams work out a contract that properly reflects the running back’s value. While 30 isn’t old in the traditional sense, it tends to represent a wall of sorts for running backs.
