Chargers Injury Report: Atari Bigby Done for the Season

The San Diego Chargers got bad news Tuesday when Atari Bigby's injury was evaluated further.  The 31-year old safety left Sunday's game in the first half.  He was unable to return in the Chargers' loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

According to Michael Gehlken of the North County Times, Bigby underwent further tests on Tuesday that revealed his groin injury to be significant.  The injury is bad enough to require three to five weeks for recovery.  This means he will be out for the season.

The Chargers lost a heart-breaker to the Ravens on Sunday.  They seemed to have the game locked up until a miraculous play by Ray Rice gave Baltimore new life.  San Diego ultimately lost in overtime.  The bigger loss may be Bigby.  However, San Diego already has a contingency plan in place.  They have signed Bront Bird to replace Bigby.

Bigby is an eight-year veteran in the NFL.  He has played for three different teams, spending most of his career with the Green Bay Packers.  Bigby signed a two-year deal with the Chargers this offseason.

The Chargers are losing a player who has the third-most tackles on the team.  Bigby has 44 tackles so far this season.  He has been solid in his career, but has never been named an All-Pro.  Regardless, the loss will certainly hurt the 4-7 Chargers.
