The Chicago Bears got a much-needed win, but they lost two key players in the process. Devin Hester and Matt Forte were both injured in the Bears win over the Minnesota Vikings. Chicago won the game and improved to 8-3 on the season. They needed the win with Green Bay right on their heels this season.
According to Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago, Hester left the game yesterday in the first quarter with a concussion. He will undergo the team's and league's concussion protocol throughout the week, and his status will be updated at a later time. Forte got his ankle caught in a pile in the third quarter and had to leave the game. The extent of the injury is unknown.
Hester has been a versatile player for the Bears for years now. His kick return and punt return skills have become his staple, but he has made himself into a reliable wide receiver. So far this season Hester has 660 yards combined between kick-off and punt returns. He also has 203 yards receiving.
Forte has become one of the premier running backs in the league. He has already matched his touchdown total of three from 2011. Forte also has 641 yards rushing. He is on pace for his third career 1,000-yard rushing season.
The Bears have players who can fill the void if either Hester or Forte have to miss extended time. However, there is a chance that both could be back next week. Because of the unpredictability of head injuries, it seems Forte has a better chance of returning next week than Hester.
