Buccaneers Injury Report: Carl Nicks to Have Surgery, Will be Placed on IR

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed Carl Nicks on injured reserve yesterday.  The Bucs' guard will undergo surgery to repair a torn plantar plate in his left toe.  The injury comes after Tampa Bay gave Nicks a new contract this past offseason.

Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com reports that while Nicks will likely be replaced by either Ted Larsen, Jeremy Trueblood, or Cody Wallace.  Each has had game action this season either as a replacement due to injury or to simply fill in at a position of need.

Nicks has started all seven games this season for the Bucs.  He is a two-time All-Pro.  Last season he made the first team All-NFL.  In 2010, he was second team.  Nicks has played five NFL seasons.  This is his first in Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers, who have already lost Davin Joseph to a season-ending injury, are just 3-4 on the season.  In the AFC that would probably mean they were in the playoff hunt.  In the NFC, though, there eight teams sitting at .500 or better.  Nicks injury will not help the team make the jump to contender.
