Seahawks Injury Report: Jason Jones Unlikely To Play

Jason Jones has been unable to practice all week with an ankle injury picked up in last week's loss to the 49ers and, despite making the trip to Detroit, remains extremely doubtful to suit up against the Lions.

The defensive tackle doesn't actually start for Seattle, but is an important part of the line rotation, particularly on passing downs, lining up at both tackle and end as and when the down and distance dictates.

Jones has 2.5 sacks on the season, a statistic that may not be that eye-popping at first glance, but coach Pete Carroll had plenty to say on the veteran.

According to John Boyle of heraldnet.com, Carroll had this to say: "He's really important. It's a really big deal if we can't get him out there. We're starting to learn how to rush together and we have a chance to get pretty good here as we grow together. Jason's a big deal, he's been involved in a lot of stuff. He's got two or three sacks, but he's been involved a bunch and been a factor, so we'll miss him if we can't get him out there. He's so long, he's got that kind of slither rush to him, sneaky."

Aside from bringing a touch of veteran leadership to a young Seahawks secondary, Jones' play transcends his aforementioned sacks line. He's proven adept at disrupting the offensive line, adding to the pressure already created by Chris Clemons and rookie Bruce Irvin in sub packages.

Should Jones not play, rookie Greg Scruggs will see increased playing time. Scruggs recorded his first sack last week in San Francisco and Carroll said this week that "he's a better pass rusher than we thought. We're happy about him going (in)."
