Bears' Matt Forte Injures Ankle in Thursday Night Game

Matt Forte exited the Bear loss against the Green Bay Packers in the third quarter with an apparent ankle injury Thursday night.  Forte was ruled out for the rest of the game and did not return.  The extent of the injury is not yet known.

Greg Rosenthal of NFL.com reports that Forte underwent an X-Ray shortly after the injury, but the results of the X-Ray are not yet known.  Forte was initially listed as doubtful for return after the injury, but shortly after that initial assessment, he was downgraded to out.

Forte had 31 yards rushing at the time of his injury.  He also had four receptions for 49 yards.  The Bears' star running back has struggled with injuries of late.  He will hopefully not leave too large a void for the Bears as the team signed Michael Bush in the offseason.  Bush replaced Forte in last night's game, and he will be available should Forte have to miss any extended amount of time.

In his career, Forte has been relatively durable until last season.  Last season, Forte missed four games.  However, prior to that he had played in all 16 games in each season of his career.

Forte now has 80 yards rushing on the season.  In his career, he has 4,313 rushing yards.  Last year was just the second season in which Forte failed to eclipse 1,000 yards rushing.  In addition to Forte's rushing yards this season, he is averaging 40 yards per game receiving this year.  He averaged 40.8 yards per game receiving last season.

Since the games in which Forte was injured was a Thursday game, he will have plenty of time for rest and recovery.  The Bear do not play again until September 23rd.
