Raiders' Darren McFadden may still play without practicing

Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden has not participated in practice this week, as he continues to recover from a strained hamstring. With McFadden's status for Sunday in doubt, Raiders head coach Dennis Allen provided some hope he can still be active and in service for Oakland this week, via Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times:

Coach Dennis Allen said Darren McFadden doesn't necessarily have to practice Friday if he is to play Sunday.

McFadden's hamstring knocked him out of the Raiders' Week 4 loss to the Redskins after just five carries. Backup running back Rashad Jennings received nearly every carry after McFadden went down. McFadden will most likely be a game-time decision on Sunday night.

While it sounds like the Raiders might be setting up to hold McFadden out of Friday's practice, Allen's words are an encouraging sign that the team is hoping to have McFadden active on Sunday. It's becoming more and more common in the NFL for teams to hold players out of practice in the hopes of getting them back at full strength on gameday. McFadden has had a checkered past with injuries and this if his first setback of the 2013 season. For fantasy owners, keep in mind that this game is a very late and unusual start time (11:30 ET) and even if active, McFadden may not receive his usual workload.
