Jaguars insist team not shopping players

Following the Jacksonville Jaguars trading left tackle Eugene Monroe to the Ravens earlier in the week, speculation around the league was that any number of players on the Jacksonville roster could be on the trading block. On Thursday, Jaguars' general manager David Caldwell attempted to put those rumors to bed. Per a report by ESPN's Michael DiRocco, Caldwell went as far as addressing the Jaguars' most desirable pieces, starting running back Maurice Jones-Drew and linebacker Paul Posluszny:

I had good talks with Poz and Mojo today, and they're not going anywhere.. We feel good about those guys being here. Nor do they want to go anywhere. They're part of this team, and we're excited about having them a part of this team.

Caldwell added that tight end Marcedes Lewis and guard Uche Nwaneri are also staying in Jacksonville. The NFL trade deadline for the 2013 season is October 29th.

With MJD set to become a free agent in the offseason and the Jaguars nowhere near contending in the league, the rumors are not off-base. The Jaguars would be smart to get top value for him now, before facing the inevitable risk that he might want to move to a better team, market, etc. No one player seems to be easing the Jaguars' woes on both sides of the ball, so just because Caldwell says he's not actively pursuing trades for these players, doesn't necessarily mean he won't field offers for them. The Jaguars already have 10 picks in the upcoming 2014 NFL Draft.
