If we really think about it, there aren't going to be a lot of bye-week dilemmas this week. Let's try looking at it this way: The combined record of the four teams not playing in week five is 2-14. There aren't too many fantasy studs on the Vikings, Steelers, Buccaneers, and Redskins who are going to destroy your team by not playing this week. If you happen to be playing against that guy whose actually going to have to bench Adrian Peterson this week; good for you. If you are having to compensate for some injuries or are simply filling some roster holes, here's a look at some names who could be riding the waiver wire in your league.
Sam Bradford – QB STL – Definitely
a favorable matchup this week against the Jaguars. Bradford is a good
plug-and-play for teams looking to fill a week-5 bye week hole. I’m benching
Andrew Luck this week in favor of Bradford because of the matchups.
Brian Hoyer – QB CLE – Weeden
remains on the Browns’ injury report and Rob Chudzinski isn’t going to bench
the hot hand. For the first time in years, Cleveland is competing for position
atop the AFC North and a prime-time matchup against the Bills this Thursday is
the perfect setting for Hoyer to pull out the Bill-Belichick-Based toolbox and
thrive under the lights at home.
Danny Woodhead – RB SD – The
Chargers seem to be a legitimate threat this year and have definitely looked
better than their 2-2 record suggests. Woodhead is being used as a
multi-faceted offensive weapon. San Diego’s schedule over the next month is
laughable (OAK, IND, JAC, WAS) so look for Woodhead to be a strong flex play,
and a RB2 in desperate situations.
Fred Jackson – RB BUF – C.J.
Spiller’s health is frustrated at best. Jackson is also suffering from his own
health worries, but at this point, it appears as though Jackson will likely be
the best fantasy option in the Bills backfield for the next few weeks.
Rashad Jennings – RB OAK – Everybody
else is hurt.
Alshon Jeffery – WR CHI – Jay
Cutler is starting to trust his sophomore receiver, and this relationship is
only going to get better from game to game.
Justin Blackmon – WR JAC – Coming
off his 4 game suspension, Blackmon is going to jump into the Jaguars offense
as a starting receiver. Nobody is going to suggest that his return is going to
be the turn-around that the team needs, but Blackmon should be the benefactor
of all those garbage-time passing yards.
Nate Washington – WR TEN
Robert Woods – WR BUF
Nick Novak – K SD
St. Louis Defense – This is the
year when you can just play defensive matchups. In other words; play the
defense whose playing the Jaguars.
