Earlier it was reported that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick's hamstring injury would likely cause him to miss Sunday's upcoming game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now it appears Vick could be in danger of missing the following game against the Dallas Cowboys as well, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
When head coach Chip Kelly named Vick the starting quarterback at the end of training camp, he said he was committed to Vick for the entirety of the season. However, Kelly left open the possibility of backup quarterback Nick Foles playing his way into the starting job over the next game or two.
"There's always open competition," Kelly told Tim McManus of PhillyMag.com. "If Nick goes out there and goes 100-for-100 and 27 touchdown passes, then yeah."
Foles is presented with an opportunity to gain back the starting job he had in garbage time for the Eagles last season. The Buccaneers were the only team Foles was able to beat last season, completing 32-of-51 passes for 381 yards and two touchdowns. However, this time around he faces a much tougher Bucs secondary.
There's always the chance that Foles lights up the scoreboard and creates a quarterback controversy, but for now Vick's starting job appears to be secure.
