San Diego Chargers outside linebacker Dwight Freeney suffered a torn quad in last weeks game against the Cowboys. The Chargers were trying to figure out what they were going to do with Freeney. The options were IR with designation to return or season ending IR. According to Ian Rapoport the Chargers announced today that they will put him on season ending IR.
Freeney is 33 years old and definitely not the same player he used to be, but he was having a good season for the Chargers and it will be hard for them to replace him.

Chargers DE Dwight Freeney is headed to Injured Reserve, source says. He'll have season-ending surgery (as @UTgehlken said)Dwight Freeney signed a two year contract in the offseason with the Chargers and after only four games Freeneys first season is over. This is a big blow for the Chargers because although he only had half a sack he was getting consistent pressure on the quarterbacks. Freeney will require surgery for his torn quad and will need at least a few months to recover.
