Buffalo Bills safety, Jairus Byrd, and his 2013 NFL season
started out full of turbulence. In the
weeks since he signed his franchise tender and reported to Bills' camp, Byrd
has yet to play a meaningful down of football.
As Josh
Alper of NBCSports reports, Byrd wanted to play Thursday night but was
grounded by his head coach.
If you follow me and read all of my prose, you will know
that Byrd always maintained he would not play until he feels 100%. Byrd has been out all season with an injured foot. For the first time this year, Byrd was full
participation in practice and he must have felt good because he told the Bills
he wanted to get in the game.
However, Bills head coach, Doug Marrone, put the hood on Byrd
and caged his star defensive back, making him inactive Thursday night. Coach Marrone had this to say on Byrd:
I think it’s my responsibility to make sure that we put a player out there that goes full speed for a full week. If it was a Sunday game, I think it could have been different for us, but on a short week right before … I was happy that he could do it, and I appreciate that. Now we’ll get him in there and get him practicing and get him ready to go.Assuming there is no setback with Byrd’s rehabilitated foot, I would assume Byrd would be available for the Bills October 13 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Unless, coach Marrone decides to clip his best defensive back's wings another week.
