The New York Giants put up a good fight in the first half, but made too many mistakes on special teams and were dominated in the second half by the Kansas City Chiefs. Sunday's 31-7 loss at Arrowhead Stadium drops the Giants to an 0-4 record this season.
A few key players for the Giants were banged up in Sunday's game, including defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul. JPP left the game in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. The team's medical staff diagnosed Pierre-Paul with a "knee contusion" and said his return to the game was probable, but he did not go back in the game. According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, Pierre-Paul was jogging on the sidelines late in the game, and did not appear to be limping when he left the locker room. If Pierre-Paul is fine, which appears to be the case, it would be a major break for the Giants who need all of the star-power they can get to salvage what remains of this season. Fellow defensive end Justin Tuck left the game with a neck injury, but after the game said he was "fine".
Cornerback Aaron Ross left the game with a back injury and did not return. Ross was doing a very solid job in coverage on Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe for the majority of the game before he got hurt. Fellow cornerback Jayron Hosley left the game with a hamstring injury, he also did not return. No word yet on the severity of these injuries, but if they persist the Giants will have a very shorthanded secondary. Ross got the start Sunday in absence of Corey Webster, who was sidelined for his second straight game due to a hip injury. Rookie safety Cooper Taylor also missed Sunday's game with a shoulder injury. Taylor's injury left the Giants with only two active safeties on the roster.
Linebacker Mark Herzlich had a walking boot on his right foot after the game Sunday. X-rays on his foot came back negative, but Herzlich was diagnosed with a toe injury.
