When is a concussion not really a concussion, when the
Pittsburgh Steelers say it is not. Mike
Florio of NBCSports reports that Pittsburgh Steelers running back, Isaac
Redman, by his admission had a concussion suffered in Week 2. The Pittsburgh Steelers say no way.
Here is the skinny.
Redman claims he suffered a concussion in Week 2 against the Cincinnati
Bengals. On the sidelines, Redman
contends that he told team medical staff that he was good to go, played the
rest of the game, subsequently practiced all the next week and played against
the Chicago Bears.
The Steelers say, ah no, Redman did not have a concussion in
Week 2, releasing a rebuttal to Redman’s claim:
Isaac was taken out of the game, and we announced that he was being evaluated for a concussion. He was then taken through the proper protocol by our medical staff and it was deemed he was cleared to return to action after multiple examinations. He then re-entered the game and saw action shortly thereafter and throughout the rest of the game.
We are all aware of the seriousness of concussions and Redman is not claiming he had a concussion and the Steelers told him to play anyway, Redman claims he "persuaded" the team to let him play and he continued to practice and play. If Redman really felt he had a concussion, he should have not played and then practiced and played again or he should have did what he did and not cry about it later.
In this case, the Steelers are covered. Redman said he was fine at the time and the Steelers’ medical staff said he was fine and cleared Redman to play. The Steelers have enough problems to worry about, they do not need a new “he said,” “he said” argument causing unnecessary waves in an already stormy season.
The Steelers are 0-3 and no one in Steeler Country has forgotten that, except maybe Redman (and Ben Roethlisberger).
