Jaguars' Injury Report: Blaine Gabbert, Mercedes Lewis, Maurice Jones-Drew

The Jacksonville Jaguars open up their season against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Unfortunately, headlining their injury list is the 'questionable' status of their starting quarterback, Blaine Gabbert. The team will already be without second-year receiver Justin Blackmon because of a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Here is the Jaguars' week one injury list according to team sources.

Will Play

Jonathan Cyprien - The rookie safety has been dealing with leg injury since early on in camp, and this week, Cyprien was limited in practice because of tightness in his leg. However, as reported by Ryan O'Hallaron, Coach Bradley said he's not worried about Cyprien's injury and the second-round pick should start on Sunday.

Maurice Jones-Drew - MJD is in the final stages of recovery from the surgery he had on his foot back in December to repair a Lisfranc fracture. He was limited all preseason as the team is bringing him back slowly and trying not to strain the foot. Jones-Drew will play on Sunday against Kansas City, but the team will keep a close eye on his rep count.

Jeremy Mincey - The reserve defensive lineman has been limited in practice all week because of an illness, but he should be ready to go on Sunday.

Stephen Burton - Burton is listed as 'probable' despite missing some practice early in the week. Like Mincey, the wide receiver is dealing with an illness, but he returned to practice later in the week and seems to be in better shape for Sunday than Mincey. There's no doubt he'll play.

Game Time Decision

Blaine Gabbert - The Jaguars' starting quarterback will be a game-time decision. He's still trying to recover from the broken thumb injury, which has still been bothering him this week in practice. However, Gabbert did take a majority of the snaps in practice on Friday, which bodes well for his chances to start on Sunday. But if the thumb flares up after a full workload in practice, then expect Chad Henne to get the start instead.

Will Rackley - The Jaguars' starting left guard remains questionable for the season opener. He's still dealing with the ankle injury he suffered in the preseason. Rackley did practice on a limited basis this week, and the team will make a game-time decision based on how well his ankle responded to the limited reps in practice from the week.

Justin Forsett - Forsett remains 'questionable' for the opener with a toe injury. He took a few reps in practice this week to test out the toe, but Coach Bradley said the veteran running back will be a game-time decision. The Jaguars would like to have Forsett in the lineup when they take the field against Kansas City. The sixth-year back can take some of the workload off of Jones-Drew on Sunday.

Out

Mercedes Lewis - In recent news, Lewis has been ruled out for the season opener. The veteran tight end missed the final preseason game with a calf injury, but after returning to practice this week, the injury was re-aggravated. Second-year tight end Allen Reisner will get the start instead.

Justin Blackmon - Blackmon is suspended for four games.
