I welcome the entire “Burgh” to Cadence Call, your weekly
game preview where I give you a bootleg breakdown for each team in the AFC East
& AFC North divisions. This is a
tough one steel guys and steel dolls. I
have hit my head against the sled 57 times tonight trying to figure this
contest out. I think the Steelers will
win but will the Titans cover my bread with the spread?
Cadence Call regular season record (0-1). Now, on to the game preview.
Tennessee Titans @ Pittsburgh Steelers (Sunday Sept 8, 1:00PM ET)
*Line: Pittsburgh -7
Vegas have the Steelers at -7 at home. I realize they get the home field advantage, but at -7 the terrible towels will be hard pressed to hold off the Titans from covering. Can the Steelers beat “10 I see” by more than a touchdown worth of points? That depends on the play of Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger.
Big Ben will have to shoulder most of the load this game and all season if the Steelers hope to advance. 80°F with a chance of showers should not stop Big Ben from accumulating yards by throwing against a porous Titan secondary. Look for Big Ben to gain some air stats with wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders, Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cotchery.
Rookie running back Le’Veon Bell is out so RBs Felix Jones and Isaac Redman will need to tote and protect the rock.
The aforementioned Titan’s secondary only has one legit star and that is newly acquired Bernard Pollard. However, the Steelers are not the Patriots so everyone should be safe. The Titans defense finished last in the NFL last season in points allowed. Look for the Steelers to start that stat rolling on Sunday.
Titans’ QB Jake Locker will want to put a hurt on the Steelers’ defense and he has the weapons to do it in Nate Washington, Kenny Britt and Chris Johnson. LaMarr Woodley, Jason Worilds and rookie Jarvis Jones and company will need to stand tall and play a sound game to keep the Titans offense in check.
As I mentioned above, this game is a tough one to call. It should be a pick-em. However, as my wife says, “it is what it is.” Thanks honey. Therefore, I poured some liquor and turned up the Johnny Cash hoping to pick this game as I knocked off some cigar ash.
This will be a tight one so have a couple of cold Pabst Blue Ribbon in the IV line with a Casa Magna Colorado robusto to calm the nerves. Take the Titans to cover my bread with the spread but the Steelers will use wet terrible towels and snap the Titans 27-23.
