The Washington Redskins have placed defensive end Adam Carriker on the physically unable to perform reserve list, meaning he will be out for at least the first six weeks of the regular season, according to Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk.
Carriker tore his quadriceps tendon in Week 2 of the 2012 season and was placed on injured reserve. He underwent his third surgery in his right leg in late July. With Carriker still on the long road to recovery, and the 53 man roster deadline approaching, it was nearly inevitable that Carriker would start the 2013 regular season on the PUP.
Carriker's absence will hurt the depth of the Redskins defensive line. When healthy, Carriker is a productive defensive end. He recorded 5.5 sacks in 2011. Considering Carriker has underwent three surgeries for the same injury that he suffered nearly a year ago, it is fair to question how much he will be able to contribute, if and when he does return to the field. With Carriker's absence, Jarvis Jenkins will likely take over the role of starting defensive end.
