The Oakland Raiders held running back Darren McFadden out of
last night’s preseason contest against the Chicago Bears due to what the team
is calling a minor shoulder injury, according to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco
Chronicle.
Darren McFadden had minor shoulder injury in last week's game, practiced all week but #Raiders coaches playing it safe tonight

McFadden sustained the injury during last week’s preseason
game. Tafur noted that McFadden was able to practice throughout the week, but
the Raiders elected to take a precautious approach with the running back.
This is clearly an injury that wouldn’t have sidelined
McFadden during a regular-season game, especially since he was practicing
throughout the week despite the ailment. However, anything injury-related
regarding McFadden will be blown up because of the injury issues he’s faced
throughout his career.
McFadden hasn’t played in more than 13 games in a season,
and he’s actually missed a combined 13 games over the past two years, according
to NFL.com. For this reason, any time he misses any amount of action people
will take notice. That and the flashes of impressive play he’s shown when he’s
able to remain healthy and on the field.
The shoulder injury won’t prevent McFadden from suiting up
for Week 1, and he might even make a limited appearance for the team’s fourth preseason
game. However, it does once again bring into question McFadden’s fragility and
injury-proneness.
