Former 2010 second-round draft pick Jimmy Clausen has been let go by the Carolina Panthers. Clausen was believed to be the quarterback of the future after the Panthers drafted him 48th overall out of Notre Dame. The writing may have been on the wall in 2011 when Cam Newton was selected with the first-overall pick.
Clausen quickly fell out of favor with the Panthers and some may find it a surprise that he's lasted this long on the active roster. His only real NFL game action came in 2010 where he helped the Panthers secure the No. 1 overall pick with a 1-9 record. With Clausen cut the Panthers will roll with two QB's in Newton and Derek Anderson.
According to Marc Sessler of NFL.com there is a belief that the Bills may look to bring Florence back to help their weak secondary. There may be teams interested in Clausen as a backup but that could be a stretch. Time will tell if these two latch on to a new team as the upcoming cuts are released.

Just want to thank the Panthers Organization and the city of Charlotte for drafting me and making this home for me the last 3 years!Drayton Florence was signed to shore up the Panthers' secondary but the 32-year old veteran has lost a step or two which became more evident from the strong preseason play from second-year pro Josh Norman.
