Chiefs’ Tony Moeaki out with fractured shoulder

It’s seemingly one injury after another for Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Moeaki, and this preseason has proven no different. Head coach Andy Reid told reporters – including Randy Covitz of The Kansas City Star – yesterday that Moeaki suffered a fractured shoulder during Saturday night’s preseason contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

At this point, Reid said that it’s unclear how much time Moeaki will be forced to miss as a result of the injury.

The shoulder injury is just one of several that have plagued Moeaki over his playing career. The four-year pro suffered a knee injury that cost him the entire 2011 season. Another operation on his knee caused him to be sidelined through this year’s offseason workouts.

When he’s been able to take the field, Moeaki has been a productive player for the Chiefs. In his rookie campaign, the tight end caught 47 passes for 556 yards and three touchdowns. Last season, Moeaki totaled 33 receptions for 453 yards and one score.

Beyond Moeaki, rookie linebacker Nico Johnson (high ankle sprain), guard Jon Asamoah (calf strain) and wide receiver Dexter McCluster (illness) are also dealing with ailments for the Chiefs.
