The Jacksonville Jaguars didn't waste any time getting their roster down to the mandatory 75 players by Tuesday afternoon. On Sunday, the Jaguars released thirteen players, according to Alfie Crow of bigcatcountry.com. There weren't any major surprises in the team's first wave of cuts, but it looks like special teams took the brunt of the roster cuts this time around.
Here is a list of who the Jaguars cut: long snappers Jeremy Cain and Luke Ingram, punter Ken Parrish, center Mark Asper, offensive tackle Roderick Tomlin, cornerback Lionel Smith, linebackers Maalik Bomar and Jeremiah Green, defensive ends J.D. Griggs and Paul Hazel, wide receiver Jamal Miles, and safety Ray Polk.
The team also placed cornerback and seventh-round pick Jeremy Harris on injured reserve because of a back injury.
Receiver Jamal Miles only had one catch for eight yards in the preseason. Paul Hazel was the only defensive player released that had more than one tackle in the preseason. He recorded four in three games. Mark Asper played one game with Jacksonville last season, and Smith spent some time with the Detroit Lions before being released in June.
The surprise cut is long snapper Jeremy Cain who spent the past four seasons with the Jaguars, but at age 33 and earning around $1 million in salary, the Jaguars may have felt it was better to go in another direction. Rookie long snapper Carson Tinker will replace Cain, who also beat out Ingram for the job.
The next wave of cuts will come shortly after the team's Thursday night preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons. The Jaguars will need to be down to 53 players by Saturday evening.
