Brian Banks' quest for a comeback came to an end when the Atlanta Falcons released the 27 year old linebacker on Friday. For those who don't know Banks waited a long time to return to the gridiron. To think a year ago Banks couldn't do simple things like eat or even take a shower when he wanted to. The reason, he was incarcerated and had been for the last ten years after being convicted when he was 16 of rape.
Banks was highly recruited out of Long Beach Poly high school and had already verbally committed to play for USC. He never got a chance to play college football after his life was turned upside down when a fellow classmate accused him of rape. When asked about prison life Banks responded by providing the following quote.
Sounds like a quote you could take from every inmate in every prison where they proclaim their innocence. I have left the most important part out, Brian Banks was released from prison because he was exonerated of all charges. The classmate had fabricated the entire story and has since offered to help clear his name.
After hearing about his story Jay Glazer of Fox sports stepped up and offered to train Banks for his possible NFL return. Glazer who also trains numerous top players some examples are Clay Matthews and Brian Cushing raved about Banks' work ethic and constant positive attitude. That positive and great work ethic coupled with his great story made an impact on Falcons owner Arthur Blank. Blank is currently trying to find a position for Banks within the organization.
You see regardless if Brian Banks ever plays another snap of football he has already overcame so much. There is no doubt in my mind that regardless of the next chapter in his life, Banks will face it head on and with the same passion he approached his comeback.
