Bengals’ lose Emmanuel Lamur for season

Josh Alper of NBCSports reports that Cincinnati Bengals linebacker, Emmanuel Lamur, will be lost for the season with a shoulder injury he suffered in the Bengals’ preseason finale.

Called up from the practice squad during Week 9 of last season, Lamur is a solid pass defender who is agile and fast.  Though he needed to improve his run defense, the Bengals were going to use Lamur in their nickel packages as their SAM linebacker or strong side linebacker.

SAM linebackers generally call out blitzes, drop into short zones in cover three or cover four and even play man-to-man.  Since the Bengals use base groupings in their nickel defense packages, they are essentially losing a starting LB.

This is a tough loss for the Bengals.  Lamur was an important part of their pass defense as well as a key component on special teams.  However, as cut down Saturday comes into focus, look for the Cincy cats to go outside the jungle and try to acquire additional help.
