Ravens' Jameel McClain working out without restrictions

Baltimore Ravens inside linebacker Jameel McClain suffered a spinal cord contusion in December. He's made steady progress since then, as he's currently facing no medical restrictions during his exercise regimen, according to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun.

McClain is still waiting to receive full medical clearance to resume football-related activities, but he told Wilson he expects that to happen before the start of next season.

"I'm doing good, I'm doing great," McClain told The Baltimore Sun. "I'm running around full speed, working out, lifting weights with no problems, nothing on my end. I can do everything. Everything is positive on my end."

When McClain sustained the injury, there was doubt surrounding how it would impact his career moving forward. While nothing is guaranteed when you're dealing with an injury to the spine, McClain believes he will be able to return for the Ravens.

McClain continues to rehab the injury, and he and the Ravens are cautiously optimistic that he'll be able to return for next season. Baltimore will be counting on him to help fill in for the retired Ray Lewis and Dannell Ellerbe, who signed a free agent deal with the Miami Dolphins.
