The Oakland Raiders are the owners of the No. 4 overall pick in this weekend's NFL Draft. While they could be in a position to trade the pick to a team hoping to move up in the draft, general manager Reggie McKenzie told reporters -- including Jerry McDonald of The Mercury News -- that the Raiders are not actively pursuing a deal.
At this point, McKenzie is content to let the trade talk come to him, as he told reporters that the Raiders are simply "feeling around right now." The team is having "peripheral conversations" with other clubs, but this discussion could pick up with draft night quickly approaching.
Considering the Raiders sent their second-round pick in this year's draft to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for quarterback Carson Palmer, there is speculation that they could be a candidate to trade down and obtain additional selections. Oakland is considered to have several areas of need, and since this isn't regarded as an extremely strong draft class -- especially at the top -- they could do well to trade away No. 4 for several other picks.
This would appear to fall in line with McKenzie's philosophy of building a team from within. Time will tell if the Raiders take part in a draft trade, but they are certainly a team to watch.
