New York Jets waive Tim Tebow

Just when you may have forgotten about Tim Tebow, it looks like the circus will once again pick up. The New York Jets announced this morning that they waived the quarterback after one forgettable season with the team. Tebow will now be free to sign with whatever club he chooses, though there doesn't appear to be much interest in the former Heisman Trophy winner.

The Jets insisted on retaining Tebow through the NFL Draft in case they were to find a trade partner for him. This didn't happen, and with the additional of Geno Smith, Tebow became the odd man out.

There had been talk that Tebow was winning over some people in the Jets' organization, but apparently he didn't do enough to ensure a spot on the roster with offseason workouts beginning. The team hopes to provide sufficient reps to Smith, Mark Sanchez and the team's other quarterbacks, and it didn't envision a scenario where Tebow would have been on the roster at the start of the regular season.

Considering teams have had free agency and the NFL Draft to address needs at quarterback, the pickings figure to be slim for Tebow. The Jacksonville Jaguars once appeared to be an obvious fit, but they have been vocal in the fact that they are not interested in Tebow. It will be interesting to see what happens with the polarizing figure, and if he gets another shot as a quarterback in the NFL.
