Falcons rumors: Atlanta hopes to trade up in NFL Draft

The Atlanta Falcons – who hold the No. 30 overall selection in the upcoming NFL Draft – are attempting to trade up for a higher pick in the first round, according to Peter King of Sports Illustrated.

King adds that the team is obviously not interested in adding a quarterback in the first round, given the presence of Matt Ryan.

At this point, the Falcons biggest needs are cornerback and defensive end. They lost cornerback Brent Grimes to free agency and cut veteran defensive end John Abraham.

There have been rumors that the Falcons are hoping to move up in the draft to snag a cornerback. While the reports have surrounded cornerbacks, this year’s draft would appear to have more to offer in the way of defensive ends.

Atlanta has shown its willingness to trade up aggressively in the draft if it targets a player. They did just that when they shipped out a bevy of picks for the right to draft wide receiver Julio Jones.
