Trade talks between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami
Dolphins regarding offensive lineman Branden Albert remain ongoing, but there
could be a snag in the negotiations. The Dolphins are willing to offer Albert a
lucrative contract extension, but his asking price is beyond what the St. Louis
Rams paid Jake Long this offseason. For that reason, a trade isn’t likely to be
completed until Albert’s demands come down, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports.
This is only going to happen if the price on Albert – particularly the $8 million-$9 million a year it's believed he's seeking in a long-term deal – comes down significantly.
Like Long, Albert has battled through injuries of his own.
NFL.com notes that if the Dolphins were hesitant to match an offer for Long,
there doesn’t appear to be any reason they would provide Albert with his
current demands.
Albert is getting ready to reach free agency, and he could
elect to simply play out the remainder of his contract in Kansas City before
attempting to cash in on the open market. He could also seek some security in a
deal with the Dolphins.
