Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Branden Albert has been the center of much trade speculation in the last several weeks. General manager John Dorsey told reporters -- including Steve Wyche of NFL.com -- that Albert could still be dealt prior to tonight's draft.
The Chiefs have a need at left tackle, the position Albert plays. While it may seem counter-intuitive to trade Albert in this situation, the team could fill the void by selecting one of the top tackles in tonight's draft. That would make Albert expendable, and Kansas City has received calls on the offensive lineman.
There was talk of a holdup when it came to Albert's asking price. He reportedly wants significant money to sign an extension -- we're talking Jake Long money -- but this doesn't appear to be the issue anymore.
What now seems to be holding up a trade is what compensation the Chiefs receive in exchange for Albert. Kansas City is thought to be seeking at least a second-round pick, and probably more selections.
So far this offseason, the Miami Dolphins have been the team most closely tied to Albert, but the Arizona Cardinals have also reportedly checked in on him.
