The Cleveland Browns are set to hold a private workout for
former West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith on Saturday in Miami, according to
Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer.
The Browns hold the No. 6 overall pick in the upcoming NFL
Draft. There is speculation that Smith could go as high as No. 1 overall to the
Kansas City Chiefs, though there are those that have their reservations
regarding the quarterback.
The Browns made Brandon Weeden a high draft pick just a year
ago, and the team appeared to be committed to a back field that included him
and running back Trent Richardson. However, Cleveland has since been wavering
on their support of Weeden as their starting quarterback, and the front office members
that drafted him are no longer with the team.
The Smith workout will only increase the questions
surrounding Weeden’s future with the team. It’s hard to tell what the Browns’
intentions are by working out the top prospect, but they have certainly caught
the attention of the rest of the NFL.
