Pittsburgh Steelers free agent linebacker James Harrison
visited with the Cincinnati Bengals yesterday, according to Mike Garafolo and
Joe Reedy of USA Today.
Harrison marks the third free agent linebacker to visit the
Bengals this week, as the team has also hosted Akeem Jordan and Karlos Dansby.
Cincinnati re-signed Rey Maualuga, but they lost outside linebacker Manny
Lawson to the Buffalo Bills, leaving a void.
The Bengals are one of several AFC North teams to express some
level of interest in Harrison, as the veteran was scheduled to meet with the
Baltimore Ravens recently. That visit was canceled once the Ravens signed free
agent Elvis Dumervil, but the Cleveland Browns also showed interest earlier
this offseason.
Harrison’s former team is the loan AFC North club that’s
ruled out the linebacker, as the Steelers have told him they’re not interested
in having him back. Pittsburgh released Harrison after he refused to take a pay
cut from his scheduled salary of $6.57 million.
