Jaguars rumors: Not pursuing Seahawks’ Matt Flynn

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been one of the teams tied to Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Matt Flynn, but they have “ultimately decided not to pursue a trade” for the reserve, according to Ryan O’Halloran of The Florida Times-Union.

The Jaguars had previously been termed as the most likely destination for Flynn. Jacksonville was said to be seeking competition for Blaine Gabbert, even with the presence of veteran Chad Henne.

However, after doing their “due diligence” on Flynn, the Jaguars have decided not to pursue the quarterback. O’Halloran said the idea of adding Flynn made sense, but it would have also carried questions considering they would have had to trade valuable draft picks to acquire the Seahawks’ backup. Flynn, 28, also has less playing experience in the NFL than Gabbert and Henne.

After signing a three-year, $19.5 million contract with the Seahawks prior to the 2012 season, Flynn is owed $7.25 million and $8.25 million in 2013 and ’14.
