Falcons rumors: Atlanta pursuing Osi Umenyiora

The Atlanta Falcons are “making a strong push to sign” New York Giants free agent defensive end Osi Umenyiora, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Schefter adds that the Falcons hope to wrap up a deal with Umenyiora before the end of the weekend.

The Falcons are in the market for a pass rusher after cutting ties with defensive end John Abraham. Umenyiora visited with the Falcons on Wednesday and took a physical for the team the next day.

While Umenyiora and Abraham were both veterans, Umenyiora is three years younger than Abraham. Umenyiora is unlikely to command an extremely large contract, and he’ll be able to join a contender in the Falcons, making it a good potential fit for both sides.
