Buccaneers rumors: Tampa Bay losing interest in Jets’ Darrelle Revis

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were once viewed as one of the favorites to ultimately land New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis. However, the Bucs are now “close to losing interest” in the All-Pro defensive back, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Florio notes there was an initial interest expressed in Revis by Tampa Bay, but the Bucs and Jets disagreed on the cornerback’s trade value. This figures to be a contentious subject, considering Revis is recovering from a significant knee injury that could potentially impact his production for the remainder of his career.

New York is believed to desire a trade package for Revis that centers on a first-round draft pick, while Tampa Bay is willing to part with, at most, a 2014 first-round selection, according to Florio. After dishing out what it will take to acquire Revis, the team that does so will also have to sign him to the lucrative, long-term contract he covets if they hope to retain him beyond one season.

The Bucs view free agent Brent Grimes as a Plan B to Revis if they are unable to reach an agreement with the Jets.
