The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have recently been viewed as the
favorite to land New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis. While the teams are
not seeing eye to eye when it comes to trade value for the rehabbing All-Pro, Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News reports that the Bucs and Revis would come to
an agreement “without much trouble” if a deal was completed.
At this point, the Bucs are unlikely to surrender their first-round
(No. 13 overall) pick in the 2013 NFL Draft for Revis. This is what the Jets
would like in return for the cornerback, but Tampa Bay is reportedly only
interested in sending New York a conditional first-round pick in 2014.
If a trade agreement is eventually reached, Revis is
expected to get a long-term deal from the Bucs that includes an average annual
salary of between $12 million and $13 million. Revis continues to rehab his
significant knee injury from a season ago, something that’s complicating
discussions.
