Free agent defensive end Elvis Dumervil will see what the
rest of the market has to offer after being less than pleased with the contract
proposal he recently received from the Denver Broncos. While the Broncos remain
hopeful of reaching an agreement with Dumervil, they are lining up
alternatives, as the team is set to host free agent defensive ends Dwight
Freeney and John Abraham, according to Albert Breer of NFL.com.
Freeney and Abraham are scheduled to visit with the Broncos
today. Denver would appear to prefer Dumervil, but they seem adamant about
adding a defensive end one way or another this offseason.
Freeney and Abraham were both cut from their former clubs
earlier this offseason; Freeney by the Indianapolis Colts and Abraham by the
Atlanta Falcons. They are viewed as fallback options if the Broncos are unable
to reach an agreement with Dumervil.
While the Broncos begin to host other defensive ends, Dumervil
could start visiting prospective suitors in the next few days. The Baltimore
Ravens, Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers are among the teams that have
reportedly expressed interest in the free agent.
