Vikings rumors: Percy Harvin wants to be paid like Calvin Johnson

Minnesota Vikings’ Percy Harvin is a dynamic player, but he likely sees himself in the class of the top wide receivers in the NFL, a source tells ESPN. As such, Harvin wants to be compensated similarly to top receivers such as Arizona Cardinals’ Larry Fitzgerald and Detroit Lions’ Calvin Johnson.

"[Harvin] is a star player in our league, but I would imagine that he sees himself in the class of the top wide receivers in our league," the source said. "I do know at his production, when he was healthy, he was producing along with Larry and Calvin and those guys. I could see Harvin's agent making the argument that he deserves their type of pay."

There has been much discussion surrounding Harvin recently. The Vikings were reportedly considering pursuing a trade that would take him out of Minnesota. From Harvin’s end, the wide receiver will reportedly hold out if he doesn’t receive a new contract before the start of the 2013 season.

Harvin is entering the final year of his current contract. He showed glimpses of his immense ability last season, but he’s been a locker room issue and carries with him injury concern.

For the record, Johnson is earning $132 million over eight years, while Fitz is making $120 million over eight years. High-profile wide receivers a notch below these two superstars generally make north of $10 million per year.
