There were rumors this weekend that the Minnesota Vikings would look to trade wide receiver Percy Harvin this offseason. If Minnesota doesn’t
deal the dynamic wide receiver, he doesn’t appear willing to join his team in
workouts until he receives a new contract, according to Mike Florio of Pro
Football Talk.
And he could be preparing to take a stand in order to get it. Per a league source, Harvin currently is expected to stay away from offseason workouts and training camp absent a new deal.
Harvin is due to make $2.9 million in 2013. His exact
demands aren’t yet known, but Florio notes that high-end wide outs earn $10
million-plus annually.
This could give the Vikings, who were already expected to
pursue a trade, more of a reason to deal Harvin. Minnesota’s interest in
parting ways with the wide receiver stems from a blowup he had last season with
head coach Leslie Frazier.
Harvin’s had his troubles in the past, but he’s also proven
a capable wide receiver in the NFL. Prior to his season-ending injury, the four-year
pro totaled 62 catches for 677 yards and three touchdowns over nine games.
