Steelers rumors: Ben Roethlisberger renegotiating contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers have worked with the representatives of Ben Roethlisberger to renegotiate the quarterback’s current contract, according to Albert Breer of NFL.com.

Breer adds that an agreement between Roethlisberger and the Steelers could be reached by the end of the week.

Big Ben is scheduled to make $19.595 million in 2013, a number that eats up a large majority of the Steelers’ cap flexibility. The team is hoping to reach an agreement with Roethlisberger in order to lessen its current cap burden.

At this point, it’s expected the Roethlisberger’s deal will be renegotiated, not extended like New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Even with the renegotiation, the Steelers are faced with several difficult roster decisions this offseason. Pittsburgh could potentially cut veterans, such as linebacker James Harrison, while dynamic wide receiver Mike Wallace is a free agent.
