Giants rumors: NY won’t overspend to keep Victor Cruz

Wide receiver Victor Cruz has been a key part of the New York Giants offense for several seasons now, but the team won’t overspend to retain the wide out long-term, owner John Mara told Bob Glauber of Newsday.

"He's been a terrific player for us, he's a fan favorite, he does a lot for our franchise, but there is a limit. But I hope we can get him back, and you know what, this is the best place for him to be playing. He's become such a fan favorite, he's become so popular in this area, I think it's in his best interest to stay. But that's sales pitch, anyway. I think we'll get something done . . . But if not, God bless him, we'll wish him luck."

Mara prefaced his comments by saying that he hopes to reach a contract agreement with Cruz. The wide receiver has said that he’s not ruling out holding out against the Giants for a new deal.

But Mara said there’s a limit when it comes to any player, and the Giants will ultimately part ways with Cruz if an agreement can’t be reached. Cruz remains a high priority for New York, but he’s not the team’s only priority, according to Mara.
