Giants’ David Diehl undergoes knee surgery

New York Giants offensive lineman David Diehl recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery, according to Ralph Vacchiano of The New York Daily News.

Diehl had a minor procedure completed on his right knee shortly after the end of the regular season. The exact injury isn’t known, but the offensive lineman did sprain his right MCL early in the season. This injury caused him to miss three games.

Whatever the case, Diehl is expected to be recovered and ready for the start of offseason workouts on April 15. It’s another matter altogether if the 32-year-old will still be with the Giants when that date rolls around.

Diehl is due $4.825 million in 2013 and represents a $6.9 million hit against the salary cap. For this reason, New York could consider parting ways with the veteran, as cutting him would save the team approximately $4.9 million in cap space.
